Did you know Clearview Cancer Institute has been involved in Clinical Research for over 18 years? Findings from clinical trial research have led to significant advances in cancer prevention and treatment, and Clearview offers numerous clinical trials whereby patients who volunteer for them receive innovative, state-of-the-art cancer care.

Unknown Primary Cancer

Unknown Primary 20 A phase II study of Chemotherapy treatment based on molecular profiling diagnosis for patients with Carcinoma of Unknown Primary Site

Rationale:

Rationale: The rationale of this study is to use the development of molecular technology allowing gene expression to profile tumors types. This profiling will provide an opportunity to more accurately diagnose patients with unknown primary carcinoma. The accuracy of these assays for tumors of known origin ranges from 78-86% and is expected to provide similar results for tumors of unknown origin as well as leading to more successful treatment options.

Purpose:

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine toxicity levels based on the assigned treatment regimen for the specific diagnosis based on the molecular profiling RT-PCR assay results. Schema: The treatment schema begins with the molecular profiling of the biopsy. Once the results are obtained the treatment plan is selected. If the assay did not reveal a primary site the treatment will be Paclitaxel, Carboplatin, Avastin and Erlotinib. If a primary site was determined the treatment is assigned standard of care for that tumor type. Restaging will occur after 2 cycles (6 weeks). Treatment lasts for 4 or 6 cycles depending on the regimen assigned with target therapy in place until disease progression.
