Did you know Clearview Cancer Institute has been involved in Clinical Research for over 18 years? Findings from clinical trial research have led to significant advances in cancer prevention and treatment, and Clearview offers numerous clinical trials whereby patients who volunteer for them receive innovative, state-of-the-art cancer care.
Colon cancer is the second most common cancer in developed countries. At the time of diagnosis approximately 25% of patient will present with metastasis to the liver. In patients with metastases confined to the liver, surgical resection or complete tumor ablation provides the only treatment able to offer long term survival. In most patients, liver metastases prove to be unresectable, therefore chemotherapy using FOLFOX regimen is the standard treatment for advanced colon cancer. In recent years, the introduction of trans-arterial chemotherapy embolization (TACE) has been investigated in the treatment of hepatic lesions. The rationale for hepatic arterial chemotherapy comes from the fact that most hepatic lesions are hypervascularized and the administration of chemotherapy directly into the liver provides effective tumor responses.
This is a randomized study evaluating the use of chemotherapy (FOLFOX) and Avastin (MD choice) with or without hepatic arterial chemotherapy embolization (TACE). The primary objective of this study is to compare the response of chemotherapy alone with chemotherapy and the addition of TACE. Other purposes of the study include finding out more about the side effects of TACE in combination with chemotherapy.
