Nutrition plays an important role throughout cancer treatment and in cancer prevention. What we eat can determine how we feel as well as how our bodies function and heal. During cancer treatment, we need enough nutrients to stay strong to help fight the cancer and support treatment. Without proper nutrition, our bodies may not respond to treatment as well and treatment may need to be delayed or changed. Our goal is to help you stay nourished throughout treatment so your body has the support it needs to fight cancer.
Achieving adequate nutrition throughout or even after cancer treatment can be difficult because of side effects that sometimes occur with chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, or even the cancer itself. Developing strategies with our registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) to fight weight loss, nausea, gastrointestinal problems, taste and smell changes, appetite changes, or other nutrition-related side effects can help you manage your treatment better. Our RDN can assess your current nutritional needs, develop an individualized dietary plan for you, and offer nutritional support throughout and beyond your treatment journey.
If you would like to make an appointment with our registered dietitian nutritionist, speak to your physician or contact CCI at (256) 705-4224. Appointments are available at CCI main at Russel Hill and the Crestwood and Decatur clinic locations.
