The six-week program addresses the emotional needs of children, ages 6-17, when a family member has cancer. Through conversation and art projects, children will learn skills needed to cope with their loved one’s diagnosis.
All activities and discussions are developmentally appropriate, with participants being divided into smaller groups based on age.
Parents will have separate sessions each week and will be educated on how to communicate their diagnosis and treatment plan with their children.
All facilitators are licensed social workers and have received specialized training for CLIMB®.
The CLIMB® program meets from 5:30-7:00 pm on Thursdays at the Russel Hill campus in Huntsville for six weeks. Questions: call 256-705-4209. The group is for children ages 6-17 with a loved one who has cancer. It does not have to be a parent on treatment, but parent or guardian permission will be obtained.
